Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Injections:
Pain in the buttock or lower back can originate from the sacroiliac joint.
Often, X-rays of the sacroiliac joint do not reveal subtle pathology or inflammation.
An SI joint injection is useful in differentiating facet or disc sources of low back pain from sacroiliac joint degeneration or arthritis.
Radiofrequency ablation of the SI joint can be performed subsequently to obtain a longer duration of relief.
